Lane Drum received a Bachelor of fine arts from Virginia Commonwealth University, where he participated in master class with Eliot Fisk. Mr. Drum later studied Jazz performance at Berklee College Of Music, after which he lived and performed solo classical, jazz, rock and blues in New York city for six years. He also privately taught 100 students in New York. While in New York he studied with Mike Stern, Peter Bernstein, Adam Rafferty, and Giglio. In the Fredericksburg area Mr. Drum teaches numerous students. His areas of instructional focus include classical jazz, blues, county, bluegrass, rock, and contemporary pop as well as contemporary Christian. He directs a multitude of guitar ensembles from rock, classical, and jazz. He is the guitar instructor for Fredericksburg Area Young Musicians, a local homeschool music program. He also taught at Forte Music and Pickers Supply for many years. His teaching emphasizes music theory, improvisation, ear training, song construction, ear training and sight reading. He also teaches his students basic songs and how to perform in an ensemble. Mr. Drum has a passion for music that is evident in his teachings. His own excitement and enthusiasm for music nd instruction are demonstrated in his love for teaching. Many of his former students have gone on to study music at local university’s as well as the Berklee college of music. One of his extremely talented former students had the opportunity to audition for Prince. Mr. Drum performs with local groups in all musical styles.
